Meet Jennifer Vaux

What is your role at Avison Young?

Vice President, Research, NorCal. I am also a member of the US Research Leadership Team helping to shape research strategy and objectives across the US.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

My mom was a residential agent when I was growing up, which sparked my initial interest in the industry as I spent summers working with her. When I graduated from college, I took a job as an analyst in the semiconductor industry. A friend who worked in CRE convinced me to switch industries – so glad I did!

Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

Hands down, my mom. Growing up she was a single, working mother raising children in one of the most competitive markets in the country, the Silicon Valley. She made it to every soccer game and school play, all while growing in her own professional career. She set the bar high and gave my siblings and I an incredible example of a strong, talented and extraordinary woman.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Listen more, talk less. It is amazing what you can learn from the people around you when you really listen to what they have to say.

How has Avison Young supported you as a woman in business?

Avison Young has connected me with some of the most talented women I've met throughout my career, and it is an honor to work side by side with them.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I coach youth soccer (currently coaching my daughter and have previously coached my son's teams). Having the opportunity to help kids to make lasting friendships, build confidence and a sense of community all while learning and falling in love with soccer is truly the opportunity of a lifetime.
