Meet Gail Crowder

What is your role at Avison Young?

Principal / Office Tenant Representation Specialist and Member of Avison Young Occupier Solutions Advisory Board.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

After graduating from the University of Georgia with a Journalism degree, I was doing temp work in Atlanta while interviewing for various Public Relations and Marketing positions. The agency sent me to a real estate developer's office for a week, and they started talking to me about joining them in the commercial real estate business. They ended up hiring me for a newly created Assistant Leasing Manager position, and the rest (as they say) is history.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

My parents. They taught me to work hard, treat people right, and keep it real. And they weren’t afraid to show that they really loved me. That kind of love and support brings courage with it, and allows you to believe in yourself.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

I have several favorite bits of advice that have proven extremely useful in my life, including: Own it! There’s something to be learned from everyone you meet. Always be yourself.....and then be the best self you can be. Choose to be happy.....it’s a lot more fun that way. Being afraid is okay, but don’t let fear keep you from trying new things. The world needs more kindness......lead the way. Shine your light. Even on days when it feels dim, it still provides a beacon in the darkness.

How has Avison Young supported you as a woman in business?

Avison Young is like a great big family. A whole group of wonderful people who operate with impeccable standards of professionalism and excellence, and who bring a riot of colorful personalities and characteristics that make the days bright and exciting. I'm happy to have found a home with AY.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I love theatre and music, and traveling to interesting parts of the world.
