Principal, Industrial Practice Group.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

By way of my mechanical engineering degree and 15-year construction management career.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

My godmother, Jan. She was there for me in so many ways after my mom died at age 46.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Be self-reliant.

How has Avison Young supported you as a woman in business?

Avison Young is truly a collaborative culture. From our CEO, Mark Rose, to our senior leadership who lead the company, to our local Managing Directors, Principals, and staff - we truly are inclusive.

What advice would you give to young women who want to succeed in the workplace?

Recognize your unique capabilities and skills that you bring to the organization and don’t be intimidated by the usual rhetoric that women need special treatment. We don’t. We have our own unique power.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I am a free spirit who likes to backpack in exotic or remote parts of the world.
