Meet Carrie Robinson

What is your role at Avison Young?

Vice President of Business Development: I oversee the marketing and research for the Nashville office.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

I started with a third party research firm almost 20 years ago that was eventually bought out by CoStar. I went to work for one of my clients (ironically is now the Avison Young Nashville office – I am a boomerang employee) and have worked in this industry ever since.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

My sister. She is almost exactly 10 years older than me and is my crystal ball of what is to come.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Actions speak louder than words. Things aren’t always what they seem. My parents still say this – I pause and think about both of these statements a good bit.

How has Avison Young supported you as a woman in business?

My Managing Director, Warren Smith, and one of the Nashville partners, Billy Lyell, recruited me away from a large competitor. I wanted to do more than just research. They gave me the opportunity and a blank page to incorporate my CRE knowledge into many other aspects that support the brokerage side of the business. I have been part of the management structure since coming back here in 2015, and have felt more valued and appreciated than ever before. Ultimately, they both just believed in me which I am ever so grateful.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I was a competitive gymnast growing up and I have a weird relationship with karma – just ask anyone around me!
