THE X FACTOR
Implementing your X Factor
We have identified several overarching needle-movers to create an ideal workplace experience, noting an exponential shift in pre-Covid conditions that are critical for any modern workplace program.
Our 2020-2021 Avison Young survey revealed that:
Survey respondents felt productive when working at a quiet, private space where they can focus
Survey respondents felt productive when working in a collaborative space where they can work with their colleagues
Survey respondents felt productive when working in a comfortable and flexible informal place where they can sit and work (unassigned and/or reservable workstation, soft seating areas)
Survey respondents felt productive when working at a dedicated, assigned desk or private office
Survey respondents also outlined which activities they would prefer to participate in in-person at the office rather than at home or at a different virtual location:
Team building
Corporate social events
Work requiring special or technical equipment
Training and development
Formal department and/or team meetings
In a 2021 global survey of some 200,000 employees conducted by Leesman, only 15% of respondents advised they would return to the office fulltime, five days a week. 85% of employees want some kind of hybrid work experience where they would attend the office anywhere from 2-4 days per week. Yet a further dive into the analytics indicates that employees who worked in a high-performance workplace wanted to return to work more often. Employees who were returning to high-performance workplaces confirmed that they would return more frequently:
1 to 2 days
2 to 3 days
4 to 5 days
This analysis confirms what we’ve long-observed through our own experience partnering with clients: better-designed offices centered on facilitating collaboration deliver more opportunities to attract and retain talent.
