Modern Partnering

Partnering between the public and private sectors to deliver property has many successful examples and continues apace. As the COVID-19 pandemic will have a lasting legacy on our cities, high streets and town centres, there is a renewed need for collaboration between public and private sectors and successful partnerships will be fundamental in repurposing urban centres.

Creating successful partnerships

Throughout the last few decades, different models for major development of, and investment in, real estate and infrastructure have been mooted. As models have evolved, there has been one constant: the principle that when the public and private sector come together in collaboration, if done well, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Creating successful partnerships is however resource intensive and time-consuming. These can be “once in a decade” or even “once in a career” ventures. Commonsense tells us we should learn from those who have gone before, corralling best practice and implementing lessons learned. Until now there has not been an industry-wide survey which has aimed to distil these themes in one place.

Avison Young and Pinsent Masons have advised on many public/private property JV’s across the UK over the last 20 years. In taking stock of our experiences in the sector during this period, we have been inspired to reach out to colleagues and contacts, to find out what others make of partnering. What works well and what can be done better? What are the trends, and where is the market heading? This paper seeks to explore these themes, bring out our conclusions and promote discussion and collaboration across the sector. Click here to request your copy.
