GIS and CAD services
Our analysts create rich visualisations that bring data to life. We use the latest software to create vibrant, colourful, and easy to read plans to support your needs.
GIS
A geographic information system (GIS) is a tool which is creates, manages, gathers, analyses, and maps all types of data. With GIS, you can visualise different types and layers of mapping data, such as flood extents to see if your site is at risk of flooding.
When masterplanning, GIS helps us review multiple environmental constraints on a single map, looking at the geology, elevation, water drainage, and natural resources.
We have access to the best software such as AutoCAD 2024, Google Earth Pro, ArcGIS Pro and Web Online, Info Drainage and QGIS to ensure we can make sense of ever-increasing complicated datasets and present them in an easy to read format.

AUTOCAD
AutoCAD allows you to create accurate and detailed designs, ensuring that every dimension, line, and shape is precisely measured. The software's advanced drafting tools and automated features help eliminate errors and inconsistencies, resulting in highly precise drawings.
AutoCAD plays a key part in drainage design and consultants are able to precisely design an array of networks, SuDS features whilst incorporating client site layouts and site topographical surveys.
GIS – commercial asset management
Nuclear sector
Avison Young was instructed by a confidential client to create an interactive GIS map of registered land and tenancies across their Sellafield sites using ArcGIS. The platform collated detailed geographical, tenancy and title data from numerous sources held by the client along with third-party information.
AutoCAD flood resilience
Confidential client – Wheatbridge Retail Park
Instructions were received from the client to undertake a flood resilience survey for the subject property. Working closely with the client and our flood risk engineers, using AutoCAD 2024, we created an easy to read, technical drawing showing the location of the proposed measures, with sizes and quantities clearly defined.
GIS + AutoCAD – masterplanning
Extensive / complex 71.5ha site
Avison Young was instructed to create multiple technical drawings for a 71.5ha site owned by a university. The drawings included flood risk and drainage constraints plan, geological constraints plan, SuDS feature plan.
There was a lot of cross integration between AutoCAD and GIS, where we exported GIS feature data into AutoCAD. This allowed us to overlay multiple datasets which enabled us to cross analyse the flood risk and geological constraints on site with ease and using only one platform – the outcome was a set of highly detailed, easy to read plans.
GIS + AutoCAD – flood constraints plan
Utilities sector
Instructions were received to undertake a flood risk assessment to support a full planning application for the erection of pylons and overhead lines to be used for training purposes at a training centre.
Our technical team produced several drawings for this project which included, site and block plans along with detailed flood risk maps. We were able to import the technical drawings into ArcGIS and then geo-reference and combine various flood risk datasets which enabled us to show to the client that the site and proposed new locations of the pylons comfortably sit outside of any flood risk area.
