Jake has been a significant contributor to the Emerging Talent programme over the past two years and was the Emerging Talent Ambassador for Leeds in 2022. Ted Avison Multi-Line Case Award
INOVA
INOVA has been a meaningful client for Avison Young since early 2012 when AY acquired RMC and established a significant property management platform in the Mid-Atlantic region. Over the last decade, our professional team has expanded the services we delivered to INOVA while navigating its leadership changes and mastering unique challenges of advising a healthcare organization with 24/7 operational needs during a pandemic. We attribute the success we had in 2022 to managing the INOVA account across all service lines through leadership, constant collaboration, teamwork, and best-in-class service. With the INOVA team working as a cohesive unit, our competitors have been unable to penetrate our client relationships. Unswerving client care and relationship management have been key to our service line expansion -- including multiple lease transactions and complex land sales -- and key to INOVA becoming the top REMS client that it remains today.

Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award

Karina Rico
Director of Marketing, West Region
Los Angeles, CA

Erika Kim
Creative Director, West Region, Marketing
San Francisco, CA
Karina and Erika launched AY's first Hispanic Employee Resource Group – Conexión – in May 2022, which in an extremely short period of time has set the bar of excellence for all current and future AY ERGs. Karina and Erika's approach to launching Conexión has encouraged all ERGs at AY to follow suit by going through a rebranding exercise to establish consistency in naming and the creation of strong visual identities. AY's culture regarding ERGs has been dramatically impacted by Karina and Erika, providing a vivid example of two people who provide the catalyst for change within our organization. They’re not only leading an ERG of over 150 members, but pushing the envelope for how our ERGs grow and demonstrate value to members, AY staff, and the CRE industry in general.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Award

Dick Shields
Executive Vice President
Chicago, IL

Rich Hanson
Principal
Chicago, IL
Dick Shields and Rich Hanson's most significant ESG accomplishments at AY are particularly relevant because their efforts create real economic, social, and environmental value while also aligning with our primary business drivers. Through their advisory relationship with one of the world's preeminent coal power plant remediators, Charah Solutions, Dick and Rich have positioned AY as a global leader in impacted land redevelopment. In successfully executing multiple projects through 2022, the team established a proven and scalable approach to the process. With more than 1,000 power plants in AY's operational regions scheduled for closure, the team is in the process of developing a comprehensive list of prospective projects that will have significant continued ESG impact across North America and Europe. While focused on ESG impact, their work with Charah Solutions has also remained true to our culture of collaboration. Cross-market partnership has been critical in all projects, with relationship managers in Chicago leveraging local brokers for sales and market expertise in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Furthermore, these projects are allowing AY to galvanize its role as a place maker in the CRE industry. With hundreds of coal power plants closed, or marked for closure, across North America, the UK, and Europe, cities and city administrators across the world are going to be faced with significant hurdles and our team is positioned as a distinguished leader in tackling these environmental, civic, and financial puzzles.
