What is your role at Avison Young?

Associate Director in the Valuation team

How did you get into commercial real estate?

An interest in geography and buildings led me to pursue a degree in real estate. I now focus on asset valuations, particularly for specialist properties so I get to see a lot of quirky interesting buildings.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

My husband for his encouragement and positivity and my supportive boss who I have worked with for nearly 20 years.

What is the best advice you've ever received?

The power of the pause!

And the advice I would give to young women starting their careers is to get involved, ask questions, be yourself.

How has Avison Young supported you as a woman in business?

I have worked part time since having children and feel that AY is very supportive of my choices and provides flexible working options which help balance work and family life. Recently I have been appointed as the Scottish Council representative for AY’s Emerging Leaders, a global affinity group designed to deliver training and support for individuals who are recognised as future leaders of the business.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I have an interesting family history, with a lion tamer and a famous 19th century French magician in my family tree!
